Being A Muslim

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

"Being a Muslim".

Assalamu’alaikum.

I need advice from you. I have been thinking about Islam and Christianity, their commonalities and differences. I must confess that my beliefs and values have always been more on the Islam side. After living in Oman for 3 years, I tend to see Islam differently than I used to. And I have been thinking about becoming a Muslim solely because I believe in tawhid and the discipline of Islam. But at the same time my overall experience in interacting with Muslims especially in Malaysia and to some extent the Saudis, as well as the rather scary image that many mutawwas have, tends to give me a rather negative image. What advice would you give me in this?

May Allah give me guidance in this.

Jawapan saya;

Dear Brother;

I make dua, May Allah guide you to right path and thank you for your sincerity sharing this valued reward.

I humbly respon for your question and situation, it is often hurled at Non Muslims and also for the Muslims themseves, either directly or indirectly.

In order for this I would like to bring you in a situation, in your opinion what is the different between Islam & Muslim? Even these two words drive from the same word in Arabic, but the implementation is widely different.

First, people can say “My religion is Islam”. And the qustion is; what have you done to represent Islam nicely?
Second, people proudly say “I am a Muslim”. And the question is what have you done of being a good Muslim?

So, what do you think?

To analyze how good the Muslim is, we should not look at the people at all and we can’t judge Islam by its followers.

People can admit their religion is Islam but they can’t hide their weakness in practicing in front of Allah. Allah does not see the who the person is, but He only accept the person who intends his obligation only to Him.

I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, etc. but there are actually black sheep in every Islamic community. Nagative images that you have seen are misconceptions about Islam among the people. Sadlly and frankly to say, it shows the nagative image for the Islam itself.

Addition for this, these are my advice;

If you want to find how good Islam is, please refer to the right person and surely according to its authentic sources, the Glorious Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad.

Allah says “Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord, with wisdom and beautiful preaching, and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious!” [Al-Qur’an 16:125]

This quranic verse shows the obligation for the Muslims to invite people to the right path and please do not hasitate to be with your muslim comunity expecialy in your institution as well.

Kindly always nearer to Masjid, hearing the Azaan, and for the biginning you can be in the Masjid. The people will welcome you InsyaAllah. Try to be a part of them. Educate our soul to feel that we are servant of Allah. Seek forgiveness from Him

Thank you.
